He sure doesn't look like most other big movie stars, but he is big! He's
Shrek, star of a new computer-animated fairy tale that hits theaters on May 18.
As part of his job, he had to fight dragons, rescue a princess and defeat a
villain named Lord Farquaad. TFK talked to the jolly green giant (with help from
Andrew Adamson, one of the movie's directors) to find out if his moviemaking experience had a happy
ending.
 | Shrek (voiced by comedian Mike Myers) teams up with a wise-cracking donkey (voiced by comedian Eddie Murphy) during his adventures.
| TFK: What was it like to film a movie with such famous fairy-tale stars,
including the Seven Dwarfs? Shrek: It was a little intimidating to work with so many famous characters. The
dwarfs are experienced actors. And that Gingerbread Man is one tough cookie! I
have to say, though, that the hardest scenes were with Pinocchio. I found his
acting quite wooden. TFK: What are the best, and worst, things about being an ogre? Shrek: I didn't get picked on too much at school, you know, what with being big
and green. But the worst part was, well, being big and green!
TFK: You eat bugs. What's the tastiest bug you've had? Shrek: Stink bug. Definitely the best. It's great to freshen your breath as
well.
 | In the movie, Shrek's main mission is to save a beautiful princess (voiced by Cameron Diaz) with a deep, dark secret.
| TFK: When you were trying to rescue Princess Fiona, you fought a fire-breathing
dragon. Were you scared? Shrek: No. I mean it's just a movie. Although the special effects were quite
dangerous. I do all my own stunts you know.
TFK: What was it like to work with a princess? Is she as independent and fun as
she acts on-screen? Shrek: Fiona's an absolute delight - though she is quite a toughy. In kung fu
rehearsals she once leg-swiped me and I went down! Unfortunately, I fell on
Lord Farquaad and he wouldn't come out of his trailer for days.
TFK: What's your favorite scene in the movie? Shrek: Any of the eating scenes. The catering on this film was excellent.
 | The evil Lord Farquaad (voiced by John Lithgow) tries to thwart Shrek and friends in his quest for power.
| TFK: Do you believe in fairy tales? Shrek: Absolutely - and I'm proof that they can come true. Although I have to
say I get a bit sick of all the cutesy stuff in some of them.
TFK: You teach the other characters about how important it is to look beyond
outside appearances. What do you hope people will learn from the movie? Shrek: How to cook weedrat. Oh, and all the stuff you just said, of course! No,
seriously, growing up like I did you learn how important it is not to judge
someone just for their looks. I mean, I really liked Princess Fiona even though
she was pretty.
