Actress Hannah Taylor Gordon had to relive a dark moment in history for her latest project. The English actress stars in the ABC-TV movie Anne Frank, about the Jewish girl who hid from the Nazis during the Holocaust. The movie - based on Melissa Müller's book Anne Frank: The Biography (Owl Books) - airs May 20-21. Find out how she connected with her character.

In the new TV movie Anne Frank, Hannah brings one of history’s most beloved figures to life.
TFK: You were chosen from 1,200 actors for the role. How does it feel to have had the role of Anne Frank?
Hannah: I'm pleased. I really wanted this.

TFK: People say you look a lot like Anne. How much do you think you have in common with Anne?
Hannah: Anne really liked chatting and gossiping. That's the same with me. Then I like writing and reading.

TFK: Do you keep a diary?
Hannah: I have many diaries that I wrote when I was smaller. I have a homework diary now, in which I write little things that have happened during the day at school. But I don't keep a proper diary.

Hannah (second from left) acts out a happy moment from Anne Frank's life. The movie is based on interviews with Anne's friends and family members who remember the Holocaust.
TFK: How would you feel if any of your diaries had been published?
Hannah: I would be quite distressed that others were reading my private thoughts!

TFK: You attend an all-girl's boarding school. How much school did you miss during the filming of the movie?
Hannah: A lot. There was a teacher, but I didn't have much time to do much work, so I'm catching up now.

TFK: Did you really have your head shaved for this role?
Hannah: Yes, I thought it would be completely shaved, but I did have a little bit of hair and it's growing back now. It wasn't too bad. I quite liked it. It's easy to cope with. I always thought when I came back to school I'd wear hats to games and be very self-conscious, but now I don't and it's fine.

TFK: What's the best part about being an actress?
Hannah: Everything. The people.. . . I like doing it, and I like seeing the final product. I like knowing that I've done something.
