Berlin is Germany's capital and largest city. The city was once the dividing point between two nations: East Germany and West Germany. The Berlin Wall was torn down in 1989, marking the beginning of a unified Germany. During World War II, bombings destroyed many of Berlin's historic structures. One that survived is the breathtaking Brandenburg Gate, one of the most famous landmarks in Berlin.
