Acapulco is the first Mexican coastal resort to have won international fame as a top vacation hotspot. Acapulco's glittery past goes back hundreds of years. In the 16th century it was the only port authorized by Spanish rulers to receive treasure-filled ships arriving from China and the Philippines.
