Mindoro is located between Luzon and Palawan. It used to be called Mina de Oro, or gold mine. In 1950, the island was divided into two provinces: Occidental Mindoro and Oriental Mindoro. This island is the only home to the tamaraw, an endangered species of water buffalo.
