Write a business letter when you want to:
• request information.
• order a product.
• make a complaint about a product or service.
• share your opinion with your school, a public official or a local newspaper.

To write a business letter, follow the steps below:
Decide on the purpose of the letter. For example, you may request information about a national park, complain about service at a restaurant or suggest a change at your school.
Decide who should receive the letter.
Write your address and the date about one inch from the top of the paper.

Skip two lines, and write the name and address of the person or organization you are contacting.
Skip two lines, and write a greeting. Place a colon after the greeting.
Begin your letter. In the first paragraph, explain who you are and why you are writing this letter.
Next, write a paragraph that gives your opinion or makes a request.
Use facts, details and experiences to support your opinion or request.
Write a paragraph that tells the reader what action you would like him or her to take.
Thank the person or organization for reading your letter.
Write a closing. Add a comma after the closing.
Sign your name.
