Danielle Beu, singer

TFK Kid Reporter Hailey Alcaraz talks to the youngest member of this all-sister singing group

Danielle began singing when she was just 6.

Interview by Hailey Alacaraz

I Was Only (Seventeen) is the first single from the debut album.
With the release of their first album Decisions on October 8, four sisters from New Smyrna Beach, Florida have made a big decision of their own: to take their best shot at pop superstardom. Candice, 26; Christie, 24; Jill, 19; and Danielle, 14, are the Beu Sisters.

With no money to buy music or a boom box to play it, the Beu Sisters learned to sing most of their songs a cappella (without instruments). As a result, a cappella harmonies are still a very big part of their music today. TFK Kid Reporter Hailey Alcaraz got a sneak listen to their first CD and got in touch with Danielle to ask her all about singing and sibling success.

TFK: You have an amazing voice. Besides singing, do you play any instruments?
Danielle: No, not yet. I've been really busy with making and promoting the album and schoolwork.

TFK: What is your favorite song on the CD?
Danielle: Why Don't You Just Kiss Me. That song's my anthem.

TFK: Do you have plans to go on tour?
Danielle: We certainly want to go out on the road, as performing is one of our favorite things to do. Up until now, however, we've mostly been doing a lot of radio promotion: visiting different stations across the country, singing for them and doing interviews. Over the next couple of months we'll be playing quite a few radio shows. As far as a bigger tour, we'll just have to wait and see.

TFK: Many of the songs on your CD have to do with sisters. How do you weave your life into songs?
Danielle: I think our songs are just about real things that happen to girls our age, whether they're sisters or not. Having said that, I really like that my sisters write our true life stories into the songs. It makes them very personal to all of us, which is great when you're performing.

Besides singing, Christie is also a competitive surfer.

TFK: Has becoming a professional singing group brought you closer to your sisters? Do you all get along well?
Danielle: Absolutely, they are my whole life. I love them to death! Like all sisters, of course, we fight sometimes, but it's always over petty things -- nothing too serious. They're the best.

TFK: How have your parents supported and encouraged you through the process of making your CD?
Danielle: My parents have been great. They are both in show business and they are really happy for us. Since the beginning, they've given us great advice, helped us work on every aspect of the music -- from getting a video demo made of us performing to driving us to gigs. They have been honest with us throughout - telling us the good as well as the bad and I know they will help us to keep grounded when this all takes off.

Jill sews and is into costume design.

TFK: How did getting a record deal making your CD affect your life as a 14-year-old girl?
Danielle: Well, I definitely did not have a regular childhood. I've been in this group since I was eight years old. I've learned a lot from the experience, every step of which has been great. I've traveled more than most kids my age and already seen a lot of different places across the country. I think it definitely makes you grow up quicker - just because you're dealing with such different issues and trying to juggle school work with what's essentially a full time job. Because we're away a lot, it's hard to have steady friendships, although I have a couple of really good friends at home who I miss when I'm gone.

TFK: Who is your favorite singer and or group?
Danielle: Harry Connick Jr., N' Sync and Craig David.

TFK: When you're not singing, what do you like to do?
Danielle: I love to draw. It is the best creative outlet. I'm also really into photography.

TFK: It must be exciting having all this success. For you, what is the best part?
Danielle: Seeing the fans sing my song back to me is unlike anything I've ever dreamed of!

TFK: What is your favorite movie?
Danielle: Clueless, Waiting for Guffman, and about 10,000 other movies.

TFK: What was your favorite Halloween costume as a kid?
Danielle: I love cats. I've been a cat three times already since I was 5. One year Candice painted cat eyes on my eyelids so when I closed my eyes they still looked open. I won second place for that.

TFK: Do you go to school or use a tutor? What is your favorite part of school?
Danielle: I'm actually home schooled and always have been. My oldest sister Candice's best friend tutors me now but my mom is the main teacher/principal. Art is my favorite subject and music, but I also love science.

TFK: What is the most boring thing in the world?
Danielle: Math!
