10 Questions for Miley Cyrus

The Hannah Montana star's sold-out concert tour rocks the big screen on February 1

By Vickie An

If you were one of the many disappointed fans that weren't able to catch Miley Cyrus in concert, you're in luck! Starting today, the Disney Channel star's sold-out Best of Both Worlds Tour is heading to the big screen for one week only. The new 3-D documentary gives fans a peek at what goes into doing a tour. Moviegoers will get the concert experience as Miley performs as both herself and as TV alter ego Hannah Montana. At the same time, audiences also receive an added bonus: they get a backstage pass to see what happens when Miley is off the stage. So far, the concert film has already made some $18 million in pre-sold tickets.

Miley takes the stage as her platinum-blonde TV alter ego Hannah Montana during the Best of Both Worlds Tour.

TFK chatted with the raspy-voiced pop/rock sensation - who legally changed her name from Destiny Hope Cyrus to Miley Ray Cyrus this week - about this highly anticipated documentary and her record-breaking tour.

TFK:

What was the first thought that popped into your head when you learned the tour had sold out in less than 10 minutes?

MILEY CYRUS:

It was wild! This was even bigger than I expected. You never realize how many true fans you have (until something like that happens). It shows what a great support system I have.

TFK:

Why was the tour made into a film?

MILEY:

Because ticket sales for the tour were so crazy. But also, we didn't want people to see only what happens onstage. The film goes behind the scenes, so people see the hard work that goes into (doing a tour). They get to see it in the making.

TFK:

What was it like having the Jonas Brothers on tour?

MILEY:

It was cool! They would pump everyone up before I came out. We have a lot of the same fans, so it doubled the excitement.

TFK:

Do you have any preshow rituals?

MILEY:

We all gather around and squeeze each other's hands. I squeeze the people next to me, and they squeeze the people next to them. We go around in a big circle, passing the energy.

TFK:

What are some must-have items for your dressing room?

MILEY:

Vitamin Water and protein bars that will keep my energy up onstage. And ketchup! Everyone makes fun of me because I eat so much ketchup.

TFK:

What do you put ketchup on?

MILEY:

Everything! Except tortillas. (Laughs) I put ketchup on pizza, in macaroni and on the most random things. And I can't just have a little bit. I have to have gobs of it!

TFK:

What's the hardest thing about touring?

MILEY:

The hardest thing, I think, is trying to spice up the show each night and keep things fresh. So, I just try to keep it fun. I play around with the dancers and with the band. I try to make the show's focus more about the relationship between everyone onstage, and not just about me.

TFK:

What's the craziest fan moment you've experienced so far?

MILEY:

Every night is like the craziest fan moment, because I see all these people that get dressed up and have outfits exactly like mine. They'll have light-up signs. It's cool to see that they took the time to show how much they respect you as an artist.

TFK:

Do you prefer to be blonde, like Hannah Montana, or brunette?

MILEY:

Brunette. People have told me that they like me better as a blonde. But being a brunette is more comfortable for me. I feel more like myself.

TFK:

Will your character, Miley Stewart, ever come clean about being a secret rock star?

MILEY:

I don't know . . . We've got some secrets for the upcoming Hannah Montana movie. You'll have to see!
