A Grand New View

The Hualapai (wall-uh-pie) Indians in Arizona have built a walkway at the edge of the Grand Canyon. Skywalk is a glass-bottom walkway that extends about 70 feet from the canyon rim. It is shaped like a horseshoe. Steel anchors drilled deep into the rock help hold it in place.

Some, including tribe members, have criticized the project. "You have to be real gentle with the land," says Hualapai Frank Mapatis. But others say it will draw visitors and raise much-needed money for the tribe. Skywalk will cost $25 a person. It is set to open on March 28.
