Tropical Treasure Chest
In the tropical forests that cover the mountains of Vietnam, scientists have just uncovered hidden treasures. They found 11 new kinds of plants and animals in the Asian country. The new discoveries include a snake, two butterflies and eight types of plants, including five orchids.
Orchids are the biggest, most diverse family of flowering plants in the world. There are 30,000 different kinds of orchids, and they live on every continent except Antarctica. But to find so many new ones in one area is a big surprise, and great news. One of the other plants found has dark, nearly black, flowers (below).
