A bomb attack on a holy Muslim shrine sparks violence between religious
groups.
January 10, 2007
President George W. Bush announces a new plan to improve security and
win the war. He orders an additional 30,000 U.S. troops to Iraq.
September 10, 2007
The top U.S. officials in Iraq give the U.S. Congress a progress report
on the war. They say that security is somewhat better, and recommend
gradually bringing home 30,000 troops.
