The President's Trip
President George W. Bush traveled to Africa last week. He visited five countries. He met with African leaders and promised to continue to help fight disease and violence on the continent. Under Bush's leadership, the U.S. has given African nations billions of dollars in aid.
In Rwanda (ruh-wahn-dah), Bush visited a memorial. It marks a terrible conflict in the nation's history. There, he called on world leaders to stop the fighting in other parts of Africa.
The President also tried to draw attention to African nations that enjoy peace. In Tanzania (tan-zuh-nee-uh), he praised its leader's efforts to clean up the government. In Ghana (gah-nah), he hailed the nation's peacekeeping efforts around Africa.
