A Peanut Butter Scare!

Peanut butter is a lunchtime favorite. But a recent warning has caused many parents to stop serving it.

Around 1,900 peanut butter products have been recalled since January. The items must be thrown away. They may have a harmful bacteria, or germ, called salmonella (sal-muh-nel-uh). About 600 people have gotten sick. Nine have died.

Major brands of peanut butter in jars are not on the recall list. Still, sales fell. "My daughter loves peanut butter, but I'm going to stay away," says Lazendra Collins, of Chicago, Illinois.
