What’s the Story? In this animated comedy, a camera crew takes audiences behind the scenes as teenage penguin Cody Maverick (voiced by Shia LaBeouf) chases his dream of becoming a pro surfer. Leaving his home and family in Shiverpool, Antarctica, the ambitious young athlete has only one thing on his mind: winning the Penguin World Surfing Championship. With a little help from his mentor, ex-surfing legend Big Z (voiced by Jeff Bridges), and his lifeguard friend Lani (voiced by Zooey Deschanel), Codi may just have a chance. But by the time his adventures on Pen Gu Island draw to a close, Codi finds out that winning isn't always about coming in first. Did You Know? In the beginning of the movie, when Cody is explaining the history of surfing, one of the pictures featured is a famous print by 18th-century Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai. The image, known as the "Great Wave off Kanagawa," was reworked for the movie, to include a surfing penguin. |
