"Mitch went to the movies," she says. "Um, he called me last night about his hamster, and I was, uh, interested in buying it. Do you know where it is?" "Hold on," she says. Mitch's mom leaves for a moment, then returns with a furry rodent with a long tail. "You mean this little guy?" Ash looks closely at the animal and thinks about the research she did for her article about Lucky. Something's just not right. After one more look, Ash suddenly realizes that Mitch is up to his old tricks. Not only is the hamster not Lucky, it's not even a hamster! It's a gerbil! Hamsters sure don't have long tails like that. "Oh, I forgot my money," says Ash, patting her empty pockets. "But thanks anyway!" Disappointed, Ashley hops back on her scooter and rides to her house. She decides to investigate closer to home tomorrow.
