What's the Story? An American Girl doll's story comes to life on the big screen this July in Kit Kittredge: An American Girl. Abigail Breslin plays Kit, whose dream is to become a reporter for her local newspaper. The story takes place during the Great Depression of the 1930s, when families were struggling to make ends meet due to the failing economy. After losing his car dealership, Kit's father (played by Chris O'Donnell) leaves home to find work. To earn extra money, Kit and her mother (played by Julia Ormond) turn their home into a boarding house. They also start selling eggs and vegetables to survive. The small town is turned upside down when local children are accused of stealing and terrorizing the neighbors. When Kit's family is robbed, she must test her reporting skills to find out the real story before she loses her home. Will Kit's determination help her unravel the mystery? Find out when Kit Kittredge: An American Girl hits theaters on July 2. Did You Know? Kit's tree house hideaway is not in an actual tree. The movie's designer created a tree with a steel framework, welded wire branches onto it and added leaves to make it look real. Finally, he built the tree house on top. |
