What's the Story? Star Wars creator George Lucas gives fans another chapter of his epic space saga in the new CGI-animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The latest installment from the Star Wars universe takes places between Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. As the back-story begins, the Clone Wars are sweeping through the galaxy. More and more star systems are surrendering to the Dark Side, and the courageous Jedi must battle the evil forces of the Sith to restore peace. Anakin Skywalker, now a Jedi Knight, is assigned his own Padawan, or apprentice. She's a spunky and opinionated 14-year-old named Ahsoka Tano, who has a budding talent with a lightsaber. Together, master and student embark on a critical mission that brings them face-to-face with the slug-like alien crime lord Jabba the Hutt. Meanwhile, the fight rages on between the Republic's Clonetroopers, heroically led by Master Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi, and the massive droid army of the sinister Separatists, led by secret Sith Lord Count Dooku. The galaxy's future rests in the hands of the Jedi. Is the Force with them? For more on the movie, check out TFK Kid Reporter Sade Kammen's report from The Clone Wars press conference held on Lucas's Big Rock Ranch outside of San Francisco, California. Did You Know? In both of the Star Wars trilogies, there is a tradition of showing the journey of a Padawan training to become a Jedi Knight. For The Clone Wars, the filmmakers introduced Ahsoka to keep this "student" element alive. Lucas says several ideas were tossed around about the character. Should Ahsoka be human or alien? Male or female? In the end, they wanted to put more girl power into the Force. Says director David Filoni of the new heroine, "She's a girl, she's a Jedi, and we frankly haven't seen quite enough of that, have we?" |
