What's the Story? In the 3D-animated film Fly Me to the Moon, three daring young houseflies take flight on a gravity-defying voyage. The story of NASA's historic Apollo 11 lunar mission is well known. On July 20, 1969, Apollo 11 astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin (who makes a cameo appearance in the movie) made history as the first humans ever to set foot on the Moon. But what no one has known until now is the story of Nat, I.Q. and Scooter, three stowaway flies that helped save the mission from possible disaster. Nat grew up listening to tales of his grandpa's glory days. Hungry for his own adventure, Nat convinces his best friends I.Q. and Scooter to sneak aboard the Apollo 11 shuttle with him. When the spacecraft runs into wiring trouble, only the quick-thinking flyboys are tiny enough to find and fix the problem. Meanwhile, back on Earth, Russian fly spies are furious that the Americans have beaten them to the Moon. They will stop at nothing to destroy the mission. Can the boys' families stop the bad guys on the ground before it's too late? Click here for more on the movie and for TFK's interview with Apollo 11 astronaut Buzz Aldrin, the second man to walk on the Moon. Did You Know? When Nat, I.Q. and Scooter experience weightlessness in space for the first time, they are inspired to perform a ballet to composer Johann Strauss's famous waltz, "The Blue Danube." The scene is a tribute to the classic sci-fi movie 2001: A Space Odyssey. | |
