Football Champ

By Tim Green
Reviewed by TFK Kid Reporter Harrison Gilman

Genre: Realistic Fiction

Number of pages: 288

What's the basic story line?

Thanks to Troy White, a 12-year-old boy with an extraordinary ability to predict football plays, the Atlanta Falcons are winning their way to the championship. With Troy calling the plays from the sidelines, Seth Halloway, the star linebacker, makes a comeback from his declining career. That is, until Brent Peele, a two-faced reporter, tries to make a scandal by twisting the truth and uncovering Troy, the "football genius." Troy and his two best friends try to set the record straight by making a few strategic moves of their own.

Are the characters believable?

The characters in the book are true to life. Troy and his two best friends play football on a local team. Tate, the team's kicker, is small but gutsy and also happens to be a girl. Nathan, the biggest kid on the team, acts tough but is a caring and loyal friend. The three friends are a team, on and off the field, always helping each other out. There are also a few deceitful characters and a bully who add drama to the story.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate this book?

I would rate this book a 7 because the action and adventure keep you wondering what will happen next, although it is a bit predictable and unrealistic at times. It is a fast-paced read that boys would like. The author, Tim Green, is a former Atlanta Falcons football player, which makes the football plays and the behind-the-scenes action believable.
