What's the basic story line?

Hamlet is happily looking forward to her last year in middle school. Little does she know that her 7-year-old genius sister, Dizzy, will be joining her. Dizzy's entry into Hamlet's world changes everything. Hamlet tries to shield her from getting hurt because she fears Dizzy is too young to realize who her true friends are. Hamlet's life becomes even more complicated when her school adopts a new program designed around the literature of Shakespeare. Hamlet has spent her whole life trying to hide the odd fact that her parents are obsessed with Shakespeare. But because of the new program, her parents are invited to speak at her school, in front of all of her classmates!

Were the characters believable?

The characters in The Total Tragedy of a Girl Named Hamlet were very believable! They have real emotions that everyone can relate to. I liked the unique personalities and unusual ways of the various characters and the fact that some egos clash and some work well together. Because the characters are so well developed, the author was able to add a lot of interest to normal, everyday activities.

On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being best), how would you rate this book?

I would rate this book as an 8. The plot of this story took twists and turns unlike any other story I have read. The characters were very realistic, believable and unique. However, some things were somewhat predictable, perhaps because Hamlets's actions are very sensible. Overall, I enjoyed reading this book.
