Be a weather reporter! Track weather changes in your area every day using our tips and the chart below.

1. Measure the temperature outdoors.
Place a thermometer outside in the shade near a window so you can easily read it from indoors.

2. Measure rainfall by making a rain gauge.
Cut the top off a plastic bottle, turn it upside down and place it in the lower part of the bottle. Mark a piece of tape in inches and position it straight along the side of the bottle. Leave the rain gauge outside to see how much rain it collects after a drizzle, heavy rain and other forms of weather.

3. Measure the strength of the wind with a homemade wind chime.
Cut out eight wide strips of aluminum foil. Thread string through the end of each strip and crumple the foil slightly. Tie the ends of the strings together and hang the foil strips outside. Listen to the sounds they make as they rustle against each other. The louder the noise, the stronger the wind.

4. Describe the clouds in the sky.
Different shapes can tell you what kind of weather is on the way. For example, cloudy streaks across the sky are a sign of changing weather. Low layers of flat, gray clouds are a sign of rain. Check your predictions against the predictions in your local newspaper or TV station!
