Plane crashes destroy New York's World Trade Center and damage Pentagon building in Washington, D.C.
By Dina El Nabli
The moment I saw the first plane hit the World Trade Center on television on the morning of September 11, I was filled with fear and worry. My father worked at the World Trade Center. It was only after I knew he got out safely that I could even begin to think about my job. I had to write a news story about what turned out to be the most tragic day in American history. It wasn't easy. My main goal was to explain the events of the day without scaring kids. I wanted to assure kids that they were safe and the government was working hard to investigate the attacks. For me, it was most important to print the actual facts about what happened. I also wanted to encourage kids, teachers and parents to share their feelings about the tragedy.
