The U.S. battle against terrorists begins

A month after September 11, the entire country was still very much on edge. We were getting lots of letters from kids who were nervous about what was going to happen. When President Bush announced the beginning of air strikes against the rulers in Afghanistan, it was the beginning of the military war on terrorism. We knew that this would be a very important story for kids. War can be a very scary thing. The main idea I wanted to get across was that the United States was strong as ever and ready to fight back.
