Q Is Taina a lot like you?
A Yes, in so many ways. We share the same dreams of wanting to become a star. We're both Puerto Rican. She goes to a performing-arts high school. Growing up in New York, I traveled an hour every day to the LaGuardia High School of Performing Arts.
Q What's it like being one of the first Latinas to star in their own show on U.S. TV?
A It feels great to be part of something that shows Latinos in a different kind of light. I'm really proud to be Puerto Rican. I want to show people that there don't need to be any stereotypes.
Q You also sing on the show. How serious are you about music?
A I love music and acting. I want to pursue both careers. Eventually I'd like to record an album.
Q You have been performing since you were very young. Was it hard growing up in show business?
A Being around adults all the time can be lonely, but being enrolled in school was great because I got to be around people my age. I also live at home with my parents. That keeps me grounded.
