News Maker: Coach Pat Summit
College basketball coach Pat Summitt is at the top of her game. Her team, the Lady Volunteers, has earned a spot in the semifinals of the competitive NCAA tournament. And Summitt, 52, just became the winningest coach ever in Division I basketball. All this in one week's time!
Last Tuesday, Summitt won her 880th game as the women's basketball coach at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Thousands of fans cheered her to victory, and university officials renamed the court the Summitt.
After the game, Summitt shared the victory with hometown fans. "You've helped us build a great tradition," she said. "This basketball team is on a mission, so stick with us!" Her Lady Vols aimed to become national champs for the seventh time.
