Super Sprinter
Asafa Powell, 24, is the fastest man on the planet. On September 9, the Jamaican sprinter ran the 100-meter dash in 9.74 seconds at the Rieti Grand Prix, in Italy. He shaved .03 seconds off the previous world record. He set that mark in 2005, and Justin Gatlin, of the United States, matched it in 2006. Now that Powell has reclaimed bragging rights, he thinks he can go even faster. "I can do 9.68," he says. "I know it." Powell is the fourth non-American runner to hold the 100-meter world record.
