Weigh to Grow!

High school math teacher Christy Harp squashed the competition on October 3 at the Ohio Valley Giant Pumpkin Growers' annual weigh-off, in Canfield, Ohio. Her record-breaking pumpkin tipped the scales at 1,725 pounds, about 36 pounds heavier than the previous world-record holder. Harp won $2,500 for the gigantic gourd. What's her secret to growing great pumpkins? "Pulling all the weeds and being out in the patch lots of hours," Harp said. Let's hope she likes pumpkin pie!
