Gifts from Iowa

Last year, Aswin Sinha's third-grade class, in Des Moines, Iowa, became pen pals with students in India. When Ashwin, 9, learned that the kids sat on mud floors at school, he was moved to action. Ashwin and his class collected $711. A nonprofit group matched the donations. The money bought 75 desks and repaired 45 more. "We have many good things in this country," Ashwin told TFK. "We should help others." Next, he hopes to raise money to build a well where the students can get clean water.
