Holding on to History
Fifty years ago, four black teens sat down at a "whites-only" lunch counter in Greensboro, North Carolina. Their goal: to stop the unfair treatment of black people in the U.S. The Greensboro Four and their supporters returned to the counter every day. After six months, they were finally served. Last week, the International Civil Rights Center & Museum opened in the building where the sit-in took place. "We need this museum so that we remember our history," said Thomas Perez, Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights.
