A Frog Grows Up
Think about all the ways you have changed since you were a baby.
Frogs change in even more ways than people. Look at the life cycle of a
wood frog.
|

| | 1. A frog begins as a tiny egg. The eggs float in the water. They are
stuck together by a kind of jelly.
|

| | 2. An egg hatches and out swims a tadpole! It has eyes, thin skin, a
mouth and a long tail. It wiggles to find tiny pond plants to eat.
|

| | 3. The tadpole grows two little legs. Its body gets longer. It can now
eat bigger food, including insects.
|

| | 4. The tadpole grows into a froglet. It now has four legs and its eyes
are on the top of its head. It
is ready to hop!
|

| | 5. The frog is all grown up! It is ready for life on land and in the
water. Soon it will have its own babies.
