TIME For Kids National Teacher Board

Throughout my career as a teacher of English and Language Arts, I have struggled to locate meaningful, provocative and contemporary nonfiction selections to engage my students while building their reading comprehension skills. With the fortunate discovery of TFK, I finally feel this curriculum weakness has been strengthened.
Weekly, TFK is presented in a colorful, appealing manner. Students are drawn to its friendly layout and current topics. The content included does not simply present information coldly to the students; instead, it actually promotes critical thinking by inspiring lively dialogue, discussion and debate. In addition, the accompanying teacher resources are always a benefit to any harried educator. Skills such as using charts, map reading, using context clues and sequencing are just a few of the many diverse activities included with each edition to align to national and state benchmarks and standards.
While TIME For Kids began as a supplement in my classes, it now holds a prominent role in my instruction. Too few students have access to current events in today's classrooms. As modern society becomes more and more globally influenced, TFK provides an excellent opportunity to bring national and international events into the classroom. Implementation of TFK has not only helped to strengthen my students' reading comprehension skills, but it has led them to be better informed and more thoughtful individuals as well.
