Celebrate Earth Day

  1. To learn more about the history behind Earth Day, read the article, What on Earth is Earth Day?. You might want to share facts from this article with your students.

  2. Tell students that Earth Day was founded by Gaylord Nelson, a U.S. senator from Wisconsin. The first Earth Day celebration was on April 22, 1970.

  3. Have students reflect how they feel about the earth through drawing and writing with the Enjoying Earth worksheet.

  4. What would you like the earth to be like when you are an adult?

THINK: What are three things that you can do to protect the earth?

EXTENSION: Ask students to create posters encouraging others to celebrate Earth Day every day.
