Big Picture

Mini-Lesson

Protecting the Environment

  1. Ask students to describe problems that they see in the environment, such as litter, traffic noise and pollution.

  2. Discuss the effects that such problems have on the environment.

  3. Separate students into groups. Assign each group an environmental problem. Challenge them to come up with a solution to present to the class.

  4. As an extension activity, print and make copies of this worksheet in which students are asked to classify environmental problems and solutions: Helping Earth.

THINK: Why is it important to protect the Earth?
