Mini-Lesson
Compare and Contrast
Mini-Lesson: Grades 4-6
Objective: Students will compare and contrast the Olympics and the Paralympics.
1. After reading the timeforkids.com news article, The Games Go On ask students what is the same, and what is different, about the Olympics and the Paralympics. Scan the text for examples. For example, both events are held every four years, athletes from different countries compete in both events and medals are awarded at both events. The Olympics and Paralympics are different because of some of the sports athletes participate in. Also, 170 more contests are included in the Paralympics than the Olympics.
2. Have students use a Venn diagram to compare and contrast the Olympics and the Paralympics.
