Interview Questions
Grades 4-6
Students will practice a reporting skill.
1. Tell students that before attending the Politics: 2008 event TFK Kid Reporter Dixie Duggan had to prepare interview questions. She wasn't sure who she would meet, so she came up with five questions that she could ask of anyone at the event. Have students read the timeforkids.com story Time Warner Summit: Politics 2008. Ask: Based on the answers Dixie received, what questions do you think she might have asked people at this event?
2. Challenge students to come up with their own interview questions for the Politics: 2008 event. Remind students that the event was all about politics and the presidential election, and that the reporter's job is to ask questions that would be of interest to TIME For Kids readers. List responses on chart paper. Discuss possible follow-up questions.
3. Extend the Learning Encourage students to think like reporters. From the list, have students select the five most important questions and explain why the answers to these questions matter to readers.
