Mini-Lesson

A Hurricane's Life

  1. Ask what students have heard or read about hurricanes. Write responses on board.

  2. If not mentioned, ask students if they know where and how a hurricane is formed. Discuss responses.

  3. Handout worksheet A Hurricane's Life and have students read the diagram to answer the questions.

  4. Discuss the ''bonus'' question: In which parts of the U.S. are people in great danger of being hit by hurricanes? Why?
  • Think: What do you think can be done to prevent coastal areas of the U.S. from being damaged by hurricanes?
