Objective: Students will learn about a country in Asia. 1. Have students look at a map or globe and list countries that are located on the continent of Asia. Then, locate the Pacific Islands. Explain that in May, we celebrate the contributions Asian and Pacific Islanders have made to American history and culture. Ask: Why is it important to set aside a special time to recognize and celebrate different cultures and groups of people who live in the United States? 2. Pass out copies of the timeforkids.com story, "Celebrating Asian Pacific American Heritage.". Ask students to underline examples of how people celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. 3. Challenge students to research and prepare a fact sheet about one country in Asia. Once students have completed their fact sheets, display them on a bulletin board for all to see.
