Objective: Students will prepare community service projects for ServiceNation's Day of Action. 1. Ask students to raise a hand if they have ever participated in community service. Encourage volunteers to tell about their experiences. 2. Have students read the timeforkids.com story, Get Involved! Then, as a class, brainstorm a list of ways that kids can help others in the community. 3. Divide the class into small groups. Have each group plan a community service project for the week of September 27, which is ServiceNation's Day of Action. Projects that can be done inside of school include: reading to younger students, educating others about Earth-friendly habits, planting a garden, collecting canned food to donate to a local soup kitchen, writing letters to American soldiers and painting a mural. |
