Flat Stanley, World Traveler
Flat Stanley has been on the road for 10 years! In 1995, the Canadian teacher Dale Hubert read Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown. In the book, a boy flattened by a bulletin board visits friends by traveling in an envelope.
Hubert liked Brown's story so much that he started the Flat Stanley Project. Students make and send paper Stanleys to locations around the world. The Stanleys return with pictures and journals telling about their trip. Hubert says the program is a success "because of all the creative teachers and kids out there."
Flat Stanleys have unfolded in exciting places--on a yak in Tibet and even at the Oscars. To mark the 10th anniversary, Hubert wants the paper pals to start visiting kids in hospitals.
