Leader of the Dinosaur Pack

Who is the biggest, baddest meat-eating dinosaur? It's not T. rex. When it comes to size, the king just may be a dinosaur discovered in Argentina. Paleontologists named the creature Mapusaurus roseae.

Last week, scientists reported that Mapusaurus may have been one of the largest meat-eating dinosaurs to roam the earth.

From 1997 to 2001, scientists dug up hundreds of bones belonging to seven to nine of the huge creatures. They did not find a complete skeleton. But they say that the dinosaurs ranged in size from 18 feet to 41 feet long.

Paleontologists believe that Mapusaurus lived and hunted in packs. The razor-toothed meat eaters may have preyed on an even bigger plant-eating dinosaur called Argentinosaurus. It was 125 feet long.
