A Very Old Toddler

Scientists have found the nearly complete skeleton of a 3-year-old girl who lived 3.3 million years ago. It was found in 2000 in Ethiopia, a country in Africa.

The skeleton has been nicknamed Selam. That means "peace" in some Ethiopian languages.

"It's a once-in-a-lifetime find," says Fred Spoor. He worked on a new report about the bones. Selam is the oldest known skeleton of such a young human ancestor. She is also one of the best preserved. Experts will study Selam to learn more about her life.
