Lots of kids know Jack Prelutsky is a great poet. Now the whole country will know it. Last Wednesday, the Poetry Foundation chose Prelutsky to be the first official children's poet of the United States. The Children's Poet Laureate (law-ree-at) honor comes with a $25,000 cash prize.
"I was delighted," Prelutsky says of his new title. Expect great things from the first king of kids' poetry. "All children should have the opportunity to be what they want to be," he told TFK. "I was very lucky to find what I wanted to do."
