An Overdue Honor
A group of African-American pilots who fought in World War II were honored last Thursday. The pilots, known as the Tuskegee Airmen, got a Congressional Gold Medal.
The Tuskegee Airmen served at an air base in Tuskegee, Alabama, more than 60†years ago. They were separated from white pilots. Many officers believed that the black pilots were not good enough to do the job. The Tuskegee Airmen proved them wrong. "It's never too late for your country to say, 'You've done a great job for us,'" says retired colonel Elmer D. Jones, 89.
