Michael Phelps

Swimmer Michael Phelps, 21, rules the pool. He smashed three world records at the world swimming championships in Melbourne, Australia, last week. "I shocked myself," Phelps said after breaking his second record. By Friday, he had won three individual gold medals and still had a shot at more. Americans had broken 10 world records.

In 2004, Phelps won six Olympic gold medals. He hopes to make an even bigger splash at the 2008 Games, in Beijing, China.
