Celebrate Earth Day
5 Ways You Can Make A Difference
1. Reduce, reuse, recycle. Make small changes in your daily life. Recycle
cans, paper and glass. Try not to use paper plates and cups. Some
900 million trees are cut down each year to make paper products.
2. Wear hand-me-downs. Wear your brother's or sister's old T-shirt. Making and shipping a brand-new shirt uses up a lot of energy.
3. Rake leaves. A gas-powered leaf blower is an energy guzzler. Turn fall cleanup into a time for family fun.
4. Open a window. Instead of running the air conditioner all season, let in some fresh air. When the air conditioner is on, ask your parents to set the thermostat higher. In the winter, set the thermostat lower, and put on a sweater to stay warm.
5. Take a cool shower. Don't use too much energy-hogging hot water. Try to take shorter showers, too. Remember to turn off the faucet while washing your face or brushing your teeth.
