Lady and the Pig
Family and friends always pop up in Patricia Polacco's books. The author and illustrator's latest, Ginger and Petunia, is about a piano teacher and her pet pig. Polacco based the story on her real-life friend Ginger and Ginger's pig, Petunia.
In the story, Ginger has to leave town unexpectedly. Petunia pretends to be Ginger. The pig puts on one of her owner's elegant gowns, gives piano lessons and even dances with the governor at a ball. None of this really happened, of course. "Sometimes I just want to kick up my heels and tell a silly story," Polacco told TFK.
