A Garden On Wheels
Talk about flower power! New York City is celebrating the 100th birthday of its famous metered taxicabs by painting thousands of colorful flowers on them.
Kids in schools and hospitals hand-painted floral decorations that were then placed on the hoods, trunks and roofs of taxis. The flowers stand for joy, life, beauty and inspiration. About 80,000 flowers were painted.
The city's mayor, Michael Bloomberg, said, "This is a great opportunity to give kids the thrill and pride of creating something that will travel the city streets."
