Lies Trip Up a Top Athlete
The truth came too late. On October 5, track star Marion Jones admitted in court that she had lied about using illegal drugs called steroids. For years, Jones said that she had never taken steroids, which build strength. But she had. "I have let my country down, and I have let myself down," she said.
Jones won three gold and two bronze medals at the 2000 Olympic Games. Last week, she returned them. Jones goes back to court in January. She is expected to pay a fine and could go to prison. "I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me," she said.
