Harmony in Space

On October 23, the Space Shuttle Discovery blasted off to deliver some Harmony to the International Space Station (ISS). Harmony is a room that the crew will attach to the ISS. It will be the main hallway that will connect the scientific labs on the station. Harmony is about the length of a school bus.

Discovery commander Pamela A. Melroy is in charge of the sky-high home-improvement mission. She is the second woman to lead a space shuttle mission. "It's a very exciting time for us for a lot of reasons," said Melroy before the launch. "On a personal level, it's exciting because when you approach the space station, it's an extraordinary sight."

The crew will also move a piece of equipment that supplies electricity to parts of the ISS. And there's even some Hollywood history along for the ride. In celebration of the 30th anniversary of Star Wars, the crew brought a light saber that was used in the movie. Far out!
