Touching Outer Space
Noreen Grice likes to think about what is "beyond the Earth," in space. Now, she is helping others imagine things that were once beyond their reach. Grice is an astronomer. She creates books for students who are blind or have trouble seeing.
Grice is a coauthor of Touch the Invisible Sky. The book has touchable pictures of stars, the sun and far-off galaxies. It also has large type and braille, a language of raised dots that blind people read with their fingers. Not many braille science books include raised images. Grice hopes her books will inspire kids to reach for the stars. "I believe there will be blind astronauts," she told TFK.
